Rooms where people build this way.

These are the meetups, hackathons, and showcases that people are hosting around human-shaped software, wherever they happen to be, along with what each room learned once it was over. The ideas are free to carry anywhere, and everything you need to host one is here.

Host one

Start a meetup

An evening at a library, a classroom, or a kitchen table, for people with apps they wish existed. Nobody has to have written code.

Run a hackathon

A day of building in which what people learn counts as success, and every person builds one real app of their own.

When you make the flyer and the slides, the brand kit has the wordmark, names for meetups and hackathons, and the marks for your software, free to use.

Coming up

Reading the list of events…

Put yours on the calendar.

If you are hosting a gathering about this work, tell us about it on GitHub, and it will be listed here once someone has read it, usually within a few days. Everything you write there is public, so leave out anything you would not put on a flyer. When it is over, start a discussion about what the room learned and add its link, so the next person who hosts one can start from it.

The guides for a meetup and a hackathon have everything else you need, from the first words to the sheets to print.

Tell us about your event

Show off your human-shaped software.

Bring your app to any of these rooms, and wear its values where people meet it, too. Two marks say that your software is aligned with or endorsed by Human Shaped. Nobody approves either one, and each links to your own answers to the principles, so anyone can read why it is there.

The marks, and how to show one

Talk about it with everyone else.

The humanshaped organization on GitHub holds every conversation about this work, and its discussions are open to anyone. Tell people about the meetup you are planning, ask for a second pair of eyes on a declaration, or show what your hackathon made.
